machine modification
« on: January 17, 2012, 01:11:59 PM »

i made a short video of a simple mod i made over the past summer, to the dreaded HOS vento OP machine. when i was cleaning, the vento worked pretty good for me. but with the larger wheels, this molded scrapyard actually works really good, as i used it to clean my carpets and hard floors after the holidays!

the idiotic design of the wheel wells/fenders on it made it all but impossible to get the machine up a flight of steps without killing yerself   :idiot2:

the simple mod killed 2 birds with one stone. ease of use as a wheels on the ground machine, and ease of stair climbing.

if anyone would like to PM me thier smart cell #, i can forward ya the vid, and you can post it up here for me.

yeah i know, i gotta get outta the stone age with this dumb phone i have

thanks!!!

Looks similar to what Challenger tried to do with the "Max"?

Nice Micky! Looks like it runs real good like that? How did the machine perform on P.E.T type of carpet?

mike,
i dont recall what the max looked like, but if thats the machine grant d had, i think it was a dud?

jon,
it runs exceptionally good on hard surfaces either with a pad, or that brush i bought from you a bunch of years ago. and while this machine ran well on all carpeted floors, it runs much much better now!

a very mundane mod but it even amazed me with the difference it made!

Micky, it was still the worst money I ever spent on a machine.  Enjoy.  LOL

frank, i had those wheels laying around here for the longest time but if i recall, they are from lowes, and are replacement wheels for a lawn mower?  either 7" or 7.5"!

I like the mod micky did. I have left my yellow HOS alone due to the fact that I have an Orbot and I like using my HOS for VCT, Laminate, T&G and I don't like having the wheels touching the ground on hard surfaces due to the wheel tracks (just personal choice). But if someone wanted to use this machine on carpet, this mod is a much better way to go I am sure.

Outstanding! I've been pondering the idea of larger wheels as well. I assume you used the original axle holes? Any issues with those wheels leaving marks on the cleaning surface?
On a separate note I have to give a shout out to the gang at Excellent Supply. A while back I had the mounting bolt for the counter weight assembly snap off in the motor shaft. To make a long story short I had a bit of a wobble in the machine, tried a new bearing assembly, even bought a new motor with no change. While on Christmas vacation in St. Pete I stopped in with my Vento to see if they could figure it out. There were no obvious reasons for the condition, but as a last ditch effort to fix the problem they replaced my bearing assembly with one off a new Orbot they had on the showroom floor! Fixed the problem ;D. So now I have the exact same motor and counter balance bearing assembly as the Orbot. Runs very smooth. So I am considering buying the 17" drive plate and modifying the bumper to protect walls. And with Micky's wheel mod I feel I can be content with my Vento until I have the available funds for a new machine.

I wonder if that would work on my old blue CCS machine?

i used those particular wheels only cause i had them laying around for so darn long, and just put them to use   :idiot2:
i've had no issues with em leaving any marks but then again, i dont clean carpets as much as some of you guys, so be cautious!

the old ccs machine may need a different size. the mod idea for me was to make life easier going up and down steps but found it made this machine clean even better! i used the existing holes in the wheel fenders, with 3" carriage bolts, and matching locking hex nuts.

the idea is so the addition of the wheels keep the drive block/plate in even contact with the surface being cleaned.
